Types Of Allergy Testing
Many people are allergic to things and most times are totally unaware of the fact or are uncertain as to what is the reason of the allergy reaction. The first of these test is called the scratch test This is one of the more general test that are done during allergy testing. This kind of test is simple to carry out as all that is involved is placing a small sample of the supposed allergen on the surface of your skin then simply scratching the surface in order to allow the allergen to get beneath the skin. This spot will then be looked at closely for any signs of an allergic reaction. If the area suffers any redness, swelling or tenderness then the person may be allergic to that particular allergen. One big advantage to this type of allergy testing is that after about twenty minutes you will be able to have results as to the allergy or not.
One more type allergy testing that will decide if you have a particular allergy is called elimination diet. This test will help to decide if you have a particular allergy to food by removing the suspected food and see if there is a change in the persons allergy. The problem with this is that if the allergy is a more severe one then you will run the risk of causing a harsh reaction in a person and may cause a more severe problem than before. After that there is the stand by method of testing for an allergy and that is the simple blood test that will tell you if there is an allergy or not. This is most times a last resort.
Allergy testing is not a hard process to go through many times it is a process that will deliver to you results that are similar to the more expensive test that you get when in the hospital. You will need to sit down with your doctor and discuss with him the various ways for him to test you for an allergy. Once this has been done then you will be able to move on with your life and get past the world of having allergies and live a normal life.
Blood Tests
The last type of allergy testing is the blood test, commonly called the RAST test. This is performed in the laboratory and uses blood that has been drawn for the patient. The blood is examined for presence of immunoglobulin antibodies. These will indicate if the body is creating an allergic reaction. Elevated levels of IGE’s can tell your doctor if you are allergic to certain types of allergens. This method is not always accurateor precise as are the other methods. Should your doctor make a decision to have allergy testing done, he will examine your family medical history and tell you when to stop your medications.
